You may have heard about Frobar and Missy, two yellow-footed tortoises who have been confined to small cages for the vast majority of the past 20 to 30 years by the owner of a Petland store in South Point, Ohio. PETA urged Petland to provide these animals with more space and enrichment (e.g., natural vegetation, rocks to hide behind, and water to soak in), but the store owner refuses to take even simple steps to help improve their lives. Petland CEO Joe Watson is now chiming in, claiming that the tortoises are rarely confined. However, PETA activists visited the store at various times over the course of five months, and Frobar and Missy were confined to their barren tanks every time!

Watson is also trying to distract you by citing euthanasia statistics. Please click here and here for the truth.

If you haven’t already done so, please e-mail Petland CEO Joe Watson at joe.watson@petland.com and the owner of the South Point Petland Dwight Burk at dwight.burk@petland.com. Politely ask that Frobar’s and Missy’s environments be improved.
