“A horse loves freedom, and the weariest old work horse will roll on the ground or break into a lumbering gallop when he is turned loose into the open.”
Ready for the tough facts? This will be brief then we’ll get to making change together right this very minute:
Fact 1. There are over 200 horse drawn carriages in NYC.
Fact 2. They work in all weather extremes for 9 hours a day, 7 days a week, inhaling car fumes and pulling heavy carriages.
Fact 3. At night, they are forced into tiny stalls where they can barely lie down and are given no turnout time or land to roam freely.
Fact 4. Horses are afforded no federal protection under the Animal Welfare Act, and city officials just don’t have the resources to follow carriages to ensure that horses are not being overworked or worked in inappropriate conditions.
Fact 5. The horse-drawn carriage trade has already been outlawed in Beijing, London, Paris, Toronto, and many other cities because of the perils of having huge, skittish animals mixing with noisy traffic and distracted pedestrians. At least 18 accidents have occurred in the city over the past two years, which have resulted in dead horses and people in the hospital.
Fact 6. After years of pulling hundred pound carriages most of the horses are sent to auctions in Pennsylvania where they can be, and are sold to kill-buyers and slaughtered to become exported meat.
Now, here’s the good news: there’s an antidote.
New York City is witnessing unprecedented momentum to allow these horses the chance at a life where they can roam on green pastures and run free. This will be the first time these horses have run free. You contributing today will move them from a life of tail pipes and cramped stalls to green pastures and galloping. There are already beautiful, loving homes for all 200 horses.
All we need now is you.
Texas Senator Wendy Davis. Snickers’ ‘You’re Not You When You’re Hungry.’ Pepsi Max’s Jeff Gordon Test Drive. What do these have to do with free running horses?
It’s time to go viral. Video viral. Viral video is one of the top most essential strategies to galvanize a group of people aiming to make a transformation. Wendy Davis filibustered an issue to international viewership and got people to pay attention to Texas. Corporate has jumped on the bandwagon to smashing success. And these people need national and international attention to move their issue or brand. We just need to move New York City.
But we’ll take the world.
Imagine right now a viral video that finally exposes the ugly truth behind horse drawn carriages, shattering the myth that cruelty is romantic. Cruelty is dumb and a thing of the past. New Yorkers agree and are ready.
PETA needs only $40,000 (that’s right not $100,00 or even $1 million) but $40,000 to make and spread a viral video that will transform into the most essential thing these horses need: widespread public attention about their reality.
You fund it. We make it. You spread the video. And you, quite simply, become someone who years from now will say: “You know there used to be horse drawn carriages in NYC. Not anymore.” And you’ll smile knowing that’s because of you.
Make this video with us today. Contribute $10, $50 or $500. Then, hold your horses.
It’s going to be the ride of your life.
