More than 35 animals have been surrendered to Mitchell County after their rescue from unsafe and unsanitary conditions. Mitchell County Animal Rescue became concerned about the situation after receiving multiple complaints about the owner and attempted to assist for several weeks until the rescue became necessary.

Erica Geppi, North Carolina state director for The Humane Society of the United States said: “We applaud the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Department for coming to the aid of these animals. Today’s rescue would not have been possible without the help of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Animal Care Control Division, Mitchell County Emergency Management and Mitchell County Animal Rescue.”

The animals will be moved to the Mitchell County Animal Rescue and CMPD Animal Care Control, an HSUS Emergency Placement Partner, where they will be healing and awaiting adoption.
