New York City to Host Exclusive Advance Screening of Groundbreaking Documentary “Forks Over Knives”

AMC Loews 19th Street East 6 to Host Screening and QA/Panel Discussion for Film Examining the Claim that Most “Diseases of Affluence” Can Be Controlled, or Even Reversed, Through a Whole Food Plant-based Diet

NEW YORK, N.Y. November 30, 2010 – On December 6, the apex of the whole food plant-based food movement currently taking the nation by storm will be the AMC Loews 19th Street East 6 in New York City.  Curtains rise on an exclusive advance screening of “Forks Over Knives,” a groundbreaking new documentary featuring T. Colin Campbell, Ph.D. (bestselling author of The China Study) and Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr., M.D. (former top surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic and author of Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease).  Former President Bill Clinton credited these two well-credentialed researchers for starting a movement to treat many degenerative diseases this way — and was so persuaded by their work, he adopted the diet based on the evidence that it will likely arrest or even reverse his own condition.

“Forks Over Knives” features other physicians, researchers and Gene Baur, president and co-founder of Farm Sanctuary, the nation’s leading farm animal protection organization. The film examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of the so-called “diseases of affluence” that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, through a whole food, plant-based diet. Proceeds from the screening will benefit Farm Sanctuary’s lifesaving rescue, education and advocacy work on behalf of the abused and neglected victims of the “food animal” industry.

Executive Produced by Brian Wendel, written and directed by Lee Fulkerson (THE COLOR OF WAR, THE LONG MARCH), and produced by John Corry (Universal’s THE RUNDOWN, THE TEN COMMANDMENTS and THE FACE OF EVIL: REINHARD HEIDRICH), “Forks Over Knives” utilizes state of the art 3-D graphics and rare archival footage to examine the question “why we don’t know” and tackles the issue of diet and disease in a way that will have people talking for years.

“These are exciting times as people are learning about the evidence of how whole plant foods can not only prevent most of our degenerative illnesses, but often serve as the most-effective medical intervention,” says Wendel. “We are honored to bring to New York City the film that features two of the researchers cited by President Bill Clinton for the changes he made in his own life.”

Special guests and film cast members include Gene Baur; Rip Esselstyn, firefighter and author of “The Engine 2 Diet”; Matthew Lederman, M.D. and Alona Pulde, M.D., physicians and co-authors of “Keep It Simple, Keep It Whole: Your Guide to Optimum Health”; and Brian Wendel, creator and executive producer.

“We are in the midst of a burgeoning food movement as people learn about the abuses of factory farming,” says Baur. “More and more citizens are rejecting the notion that it’s healthy to eat animal foods and recognizing the many benefits that come with eating plant foods instead. Staying away from meat, dairy and eggs helps reduce animal suffering, protects the environment, and decreases our risk for succumbing to heart disease, cancer and stroke. I am honored to be a part of this watershed film that offers common sense solutions to some of our world’s most pressing problems.”

The exclusive New York City engagement begins with a sold-out pre-screening VIP reception hosted by David and Marisa Wolfson from 5 – 7 p.m., followed by the screening and QA/panel discussion from 7:30 – 10 p.m. at AMC Loews 19th Street East 6 (890 Broadway at 19th Street). Delicious vegan hors d’oeuvres will be provided exclusively by famed Manhattan gourmet vegan restaurant Candle 79. $10 donation to Farm Sanctuary, per person, screening only.
