Apple Valley resident Michael Fessler is facing cruelty-to-animals charges as a result of an April 15th incident during which Fessler allegedly hurled his wife’s dog across the room after becoming frustrated with the animal for defecating inside the house. Instead of rushing the badly injured, screaming dog to the veterinarian, Fessler apparently called his wife home from work to do it herself. According to news sources, the dog suffered a broken right pelvis and an injured left pelvis, and the examining veterinarian likened his condition to having been run over by a car, stating that the injuries would require “significant treatment” to heal properly. Fessler is scheduled to appear in court on these charges on July 1, but in the meantime, the dog was returned to Fessler’s home. Alarmingly, officials refuse to make further inquiries into the dog’s current well-being.
Please contact Apple Valley officials and remind them that repeat crimes are the rule, rather than the exception, among animal abusers. Urge them to ensure that the dog is healing and being properly cared for and not being subjected to further abuse.
